Taking care of your wooden product

A wooden cutting board from Buckeye Woodworking is handmade and unique. With proper care, your cutting board will remain beautiful, hygienic, and functional for many years. Below you’ll find how to best clean, maintain, and protect your wooden cutting board.

Daily Care for Your Cutting Board

Clean your cutting board after each use with warm water and mild dish soap. Do not use aggressive cleaning products. Rinse the board briefly and dry it immediately with a clean cloth. Never leave the cutting board soaking in water and do not place it in the dishwasher. Allow the board to dry upright so both sides can ventilate properly.

What to Avoid

Never place a wooden cutting board in the dishwasher. Avoid prolonged soaking in water and exposure to heat sources such as ovens, radiators, or direct sunlight. Do not use abrasive materials or chemical cleaners, as these can damage and dry out the wood.

Oiling Your Cutting Board for Protection

To protect your wooden cutting board, regular oiling is essential. Always use a food-safe wood oil or special cutting board oil.

With intensive use, it is recommended to oil the cutting board once a month. With normal use, once every two to three months is sufficient.

Make sure the board is clean and completely dry before applying oil. Apply a thin, even layer of oil with a soft cloth. Let the oil soak in for at least four to eight hours, preferably overnight. Then remove any excess oil with a dry cloth.

For extra protection, a thin layer of beeswax can be applied after oiling.

Removing Stains and Odors

To remove stains and odors, you can use coarse salt and lemon. Sprinkle coarse salt over the surface and rub the board with half a lemon. Let this sit for five minutes, then rinse lightly and dry the cutting board immediately.

This method cleans naturally and refreshes the wood.

Storing Your Cutting Board

Store your wooden cutting board in a dry place. Do not leave it flat on a wet countertop. Preferably store the cutting board upright or on rubber feet so air can circulate on both sides.

Natural Properties of Wood

Wood is a living material. Small differences in color and grain pattern are normal and make each cutting board unique. Slight movement due to temperature and humidity is a natural characteristic of solid wood.

With proper care, your cutting board will only become more beautiful as it ages.
